The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) maintains a WWW server which is a valuable source of information on the HTTP protocol and on HTML: http://www.w3.org/pub/WWW/. A rather good book on WWW is [December and Randall(1994)]. The books Managing Internet Information Services [Liu et al.(1994)] and The Whole Internet [Krol(1994)] also provide substantial information about WWW and its relation to other Internet technologies.
